If you’ve got a blog, you’ve probably heard of Media Kits. Having a media kit for your blog is pretty much an essential, especially if you want to work with brands and companies, or even other bloggers. Here’s why you should have one, how you can do it, and when you should start thinking about making one.
Media kits are essential if you want to work with brands and companies. It’s a way to show off your stats, and entice a someone to work with you. But, when it comes to making someone desperate to add your blog to the PR list, it takes some work.
Blog media kit
Media kits are like your blogs’ CV. All the most important information is in your media kit, at one glance brands and companies if you fit what they’re looking for or not. This not only saves their time, but yours too.
With so many bloggers about, in all kinds of different niches, there’s definitely competition for work. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of work for everyone, but like I say it’s whether you fit the bill or not. If you’re not what they’re looking for, then they want to know. They also want to know if you are what they’re looking for though! Your media kit is the best way to do that.
In a perfect world, your media kit would look similar to your blog and social media presence. This makes it unique, for one, and when they click on your links to have a little nosy, they’ll find exactly what they expect. If your media kit is light, covered in pastels, and has bright white backgrounds in your photo samples, then they’re not going to expect to come to a blog that’s dark, with no pastels, and no white backgrounds. Ya get me?
The writing also makes a difference. This is definitely what I find the hardest to do – a little ironic, really. I just can’t write about myself to save my life! There’s writing about yourself, giving the facts, and then there’s writing about yourself, where it just makes someone want to know more and follow all your links.
This is where a copywriter or editor would come in extreme handy! I actually got mine done by Jade – who actually has a blog too – and my god! I feel like I got a completely different media kit back! It’s exactly what I wanted, and tried to do myself, but she’s hit it spot on and made the copy so much more interesting. It’s an absolute bargain at £15 for everything she does!
*This isn’t an ad, I’m just way too impressed! I want to work with myself after reading it!
Really, you want to get on it as soon as possible! Even though your stats might not be great, don’t worry. Mine don’t look too impressive compared to some either, but thanks to Jade tweaking a few things, it looks just as impressive as anyone else’s media kit!
The sooner you have a media kit to offer, the better. I got my first collaboration offer when I was still convinced my blog wasn’t good enough, so it can happen when you least expect it! Being able to send the document to them straight away, knowing that it represents you and your blog in the best way possible, will give you a huge confidence boost.
