Self care for your feet

Caring for your feet should be something we all think of quite regularly, since they usually take the weight of our body, are in shoes all day, and/or take a bit of a beating with stubbing our toes and treading on things around the house. Here’s how you can care for your feet, without it taking up huge amounts of time.

Before I start, I’d just like to say I won’t be sharing pictures of my feet ha ha!

I used to give myself a pedicure at least once a week, but life got just a tad too busy and stressful to even bother. I really do regret falling behind on caring for my feet. Before I trained to be a hairdresser, I didn’t have problems with my circulation at all.

Once I started, however, I did start to notice my feet would get cold a lot easier and it got to the point where my feet were pretty much constantly purple and blue. We even did a lecture on it while studying, and they told us how to help our circulation and how to care for our feet considering we were stood up for 8 hours a day.

If you struggle to find time, having a cozy night in every now and again would be the perfect time to do some of these tips!

Self care for your feet

A lot of people go to the beautician and have a pedicure every so often, but what about those of us that either can’t for whatever reason, or simply don’t want to? Well there’s a few ways you can keep your feet nice, without having to go to the beautician.

Self pedicure

This one might be a little bit obvious, but it should still be on the list. Trimming your nails, painting them if you want, scrubbing off dead skin, moisturizing the good skin, all work towards the overall health of your feet. You don’t have to go all out and have 5 different creams, even just a basic pedicure will work wonders.

Massage your feet

When I say massage, it can be a quick rub while you put some cream on to let sit under your socks for the night, or you can give yourself a full on massage all the way up to your knee. This will help with nail growth and health, and will push blood back up your leg rather than letting it sit in your feet. Always push  the blood towards your heart – up your leg – not away.

I’ve managed to get back into the habit of putting cream on my feet before bed, and putting socks on so it soaks in overnight. My skin feels lovely in the morning! I’ve been using Vaseline lotion recently and I really do love it.

Sit with your legs up

When your home or in a position where you can lift your feet and unbend your knees slightly, do. It’ll help the circulation, which in turn helps your skin and nails. This is a big one for me, and it makes such a big difference. My feet literally change colour from when I first sit down t when I get up again in the evenings!

Take care with how you treat your feet

We all know wearing shoes that don’t fit or socks that rub etc. can affect our feet. You’d be surprised how many people wear shoes too small for them, however! Make sure you get your feet measured next time you’re in a shoe shop, and wear socks to suit – I know there are sports socks with an elasticated middle which are great.

I once heard someone say “Invest in your shoes and your bed sheets, because if you’re not in one you are in the other.” and it really made me think about it! How do you take care of your feet?
